The Fédération Congolaise de Football Association (FECOFA) has declared its intent to file a complaint before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The decision to contest the Appeals Commission’s ruling stems from the altercation between Regragui and Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba during the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
In an official press release issued on Monday, FECOFA expressed its dissatisfaction with the Appeals Commission’s unexpected decision, which revoked Regragui’s suspension despite detailed confessions by the coach, backed by conclusive visual evidence:
“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation appealed against this decision and, despite the detailed confessions of the said coach, and confirmed by the images which leave no shadow of doubt, the Appeal Commission, against all expectations, simply canceled the decision on January 26, 2023.”
FECOFA, remaining steadfast in its conviction of the unjust nature of the Appeals Commission’s ruling, asserted its commitment to pursuing the matter further.
The press release stated, “Convinced of the totally unjustified nature of this cancellation, the Congolese Federation of Association Football (FECOFA) announces its intention to bring the case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), upon receipt of the reasoned decision, in accordance with the provisions in force.”
The controversy surrounding this incident continues to captivate the football community, with all eyes now turning to CAS as the stage for the next chapter in this unfolding drama.
