AFCON 2023: Dramatic draw as Zambia rescues a point against Tanzania

Zambia and Tanzania engaged in a fierce battle that culminated in a 1-1 draw. The highly-anticipated clash unfolded following the earlier 1-1 stalemate between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Contrary to expectations, the Zambian side, deemed favorites, faced an unexpected challenge from the Étoiles du Kilimanjaro.

The Tanzanian forward, Mbwana Samatta, showcased his prowess by facilitating Simon Msuva’s precise strike, granting Tanzania a lead (1-0, 11th minute).

The Chipolopos encountered further adversity when Rodrick Kabwe received a red card, reducing Zambia to ten players just before halftime (44th minute).

Undeterred by the numerical disadvantage, Zambia persevered, launching a determined offensive to level the score.

Their efforts bore fruit in the dying moments of the match, courtesy of Paston Daka, the Leicester City striker, who found the net in the 89th minute.

The late equalizer not only salvaged a point for Zambia but also showcased the team’s resilience in the face of adversity.

With this hard-fought 1-1 draw, Zambia repositions itself on par with the Democratic Republic of Congo in the group standings, both teams sharing second place.

Tanzania, following closely, remains just one point adrift. The Group F dynamics are now finely poised, setting the stage for further intense battles as the tournament progresses.

Football enthusiasts can anticipate more unpredictable twists and turns in the quest for AFCON glory.
