Cote d’Ivoire will be at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations without the services of one of their star men in youngster Simon Adingra, a huge blow to the Elephants.
Brighton’s medical team, in a statement released on Wednesday, indicated Adingra would be out of action for at least a month due on an injury.
Therefore, 21-year-old forward would be missing the tournament dated from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
“Roberto De Zerbi confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday that Kaoru Mitoma (ankle) and Simon Adingra (hamstring) will both be out for at least four weeks,” the statement read.
Cote d’Ivoire head coach Jean-Louis Gasset would now have to restructure his team now that Adingra is carrying a hamstring injury.
The French tactician will announce his final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at a press conference.
As hosts, the Elephants are keen on winning the ultimate prize at the end of the tournament.
They start their AFCON campaign with the opening match of the tournament against Guinea Bissau before taking on Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea in the other group stage matches.
Adingra is having a decent season in the Premiership, having netted 4 goals and provided one assist after 17 matches.
