As we are a few days away from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Cote d’Ivoire, the majority of the participating teams have announced their final squads for the tournament.
The latest to reveal their final squad list for the tournament is the 2019 champions, Algeria, as published by the Football Federation on Friday evening.
Djamel Belmadi’s roster for the AFCON has players who played a crucial role when the Fennec Foxes clinched the title in Egypt, including captain Riyad Karim Mahrez.
The others are Baghdad Bounedjah, Ismael Bennacer, Soufiane Feghouli, Ramy Bensebaini, Youcef Belaili, and Islam Slimani.
West Ham United forward Said Benrahma is a notable omission from the Algeria squad as he has been overlooked by Belmadi despite his exploits for the Hammers last season.
AS Roma and former France youth international Houssem Aouar has been included in the Fennec Foxes’ list. The 25-year-old made his debut for Algeria in June against Uganda in the AFCON qualifiers.
USM Alger duo Oussama Benbot and Zineddine Belaid have earned places in the list following their impressive form, leading to the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Super Cup triumphs.
Algeria are drawn in Group D, where they will take on Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Angola for places in knockout round of the AFCON.
