Champions, Senegal, have announced their final squad list for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
Teranga Lions boss Aliou Cissé made the announcement of the 27-man list for the 2023 AFCON on Friday, December 29, 2023, during a press conference.
The roster to try and defend their the Africa Cup of Nations title next month have no major surprises of omissions and inclusions.
The squad consists of a majority number of the players, who made history in Cameroon in the last edition, winning the ultimate prize for the very first time in history.
Sadio Mane, Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Edouard Mendy, Cheikhou Kouyate, Nampalys Mendy, Boulaye Dia, amongst others are all summoned by Cissé.
CAF Young Player of the Year, Lamine Camara, has deservedly earned a place in the Teranga Lions squad. Camara was instrumental for Senegal when they won the CHAN tournament and the U20 AFCON titles last year.
After making a move to FC Metz in the French top-flight, the 19-year-old midfielder has been a revelation. He scored a goal of the season contender a few weeks ago against AS Monaco.
Senegal found themselves in Group touted as the ‘group of death’ by connoisseurs ahead of their title defence. They face Cameroon and two neighbours Guinea and The Gambia in Group C.
