AFCON 2015 Qualifiers (Matchday 5): Shock Results, Rising Tension, and New Qualifiers

The fifth matchday of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers produced a mix of surprises, confirmations, and crushing disappointments as teams fight for a spot in Equatorial Guinea (January 17 – February 8, 2015). Several nations have now secured qualification, while others face must-win scenarios on the final day.

  • Cameroon (1-0 vs DR Congo)

  • Nigeria kept their hopes alive with a clutch 2-0 win in Congo, thanks to goals from Ike Uche and Aaron Samuel. They now need to beat South Africa to qualify.

  • Ghana, surprisingly beaten 1-0 by Uganda, must win their last match, while Guinea‘s emphatic 4-1 win in Lomé keeps their dream alive.

Big Names Eliminated or in Trouble

  • Egypt is officially eliminated after a 0-1 home loss to Senegal. The once-dominant Pharaohs will miss a third consecutive AFCON.

  • Togo, embarrassed at home by Guinea, are hanging by a thread.

  • Mali slipped badly with a 2-0 defeat to Malawi, putting their qualification in serious doubt.

After a dismal 2014 World Cup, the Indomitable Lions have bounced back under new leadership. A Vincent Aboubakar goal sealed their qualification with a narrow win over DR Congo.


💥 Ivory Coast Finds Its Mojo
