AFCON 2015: DR Congo Players Set to Receive $5,000 Per Match, Says FECOFA President
The DR Congo national team players have been informed of their bonuses for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. Each player will receive $5,000 per match (around €4,315), regardless of the result, as revealed by Constant Omari, president of the Congolese Football Association (FECOFA).
This amount could rise should the Leopards progress beyond the group stage. Speaking before the team’s departure for Malabo, Omari emphasized that playing for the national team is not about money but about patriotism and national pride:
“You don’t come to the national team to make money but to bring happiness to the flag you come to defend. The most important thing is the 75 million Congolese who are behind you.”
Omari also underscored the importance of discipline within Florent Ibenge’s squad, stating firmly:
“I told the coach that if someone is undisciplined, you put them on a plane and they leave, even if they are the best player in the world. I prefer to lose with disciplined players than to win with undisciplined players.”
With motivation high and the rules made clear, DR Congo aims to make a strong impression at AFCON 2015.
