Guinea Receive Boost as Sylla Returns for Cameroon Clash
Guinea have been handed a timely boost ahead of their crucial Group D encounter with Cameroon at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, as striker Idrissa Sylla looks set to return from injury.
The Zulte Waregem forward missed his nation’s previous match against Ivory Coast due to a groin problem but is now nearing full fitness. Head coach Michel Dussuyer confirmed Sylla’s improved condition, though cautioned he still needs to regain match sharpness.
“He’s almost ready, but he needs to loosen up a bit. He needs to free himself up in the game,” Dussuyer told Foot224.net.
There was further good news from the Guinea camp as Baissama Sankoh and Kevin Constant, both of whom sat out Wednesday’s training, rejoined the group on Thursday. Sankoh had been struggling with a stomach issue, while Constant was nursing a hamstring concern.
However, there remains doubt over the availability of team captain Kamil Zayatte. The experienced defender has returned to training after five days out with a calf injury but is still not fully fit. There are growing fears he may miss the remainder of the group stage.
Guinea, who drew 1-1 with Ivory Coast in their opening game, will be eager to have key players available as they face a strong Cameroonian side in what could prove a decisive fixture in the race for the knockout rounds.
