AFCON 2015 – Group D: Potential Draw Delayed Until Thursday Morning
In a twist to the already suspense-filled Group D scenario at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, the draw initially scheduled for Wednesday evening in the event of a complete tie will now be held on Thursday morning, according to reports from Radio France Internationale (RFI).
Earlier today, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had announced that, should Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Guinea finish the group stage with identical points, goal differences, and goals scored, a draw would take place immediately after the final group matches.
However, CAF has now revised that plan, stating the draw will take place on Thursday morning instead. The venue will likely remain the press room of Malabo Stadium, where Cameroon and Ivory Coast are clashing in one of the two decisive matches of the evening.
The Group D Deadlock So Far:
-
All four teams have 2 points
-
All four matches have ended 1-1
-
If both final games tonight also end 1-1, teams would be perfectly level in:
-
Points (3)
-
Goal difference (0)
-
Goals scored (3)
-
Head-to-head
-
In such a scenario, CAF regulations call for drawing lots to determine which teams advance to the quarter-finals—a rare and dramatic outcome for a major international tournament.
More updates to follow after tonight’s results.
