Afcon 2015 – Guinea Confident Ahead of Cameroon Clash
After an impressive 1-1 draw against Ivory Coast in their opening match of Group D, Guinea and Baïssama Sankoh are heading into their second test against Cameroon with growing confidence. The Syli National proved many doubters wrong in their performance against the Elephants, and they now aim to upset the Indomitable Lions as well.
“Not all observers expected us to stand up to Ivory Coast. We did it and we showed what we were capable of,” said Sankoh in an interview with football365.fr. “We all have one point. We’re all on the same level. This group will be undecided until the last matchday.”
Sankoh emphasized the quality of Cameroon, acknowledging that like Ivory Coast, they possess strong individual talent. However, Guinea is determined not to be overawed.
“Cameroon is a very good team… We’ll have to be vigilant and not watch them play. Do everything to avoid conceding first, then try to launch a counterattack and score. Above all, we’ll have to keep the same mindset.”
With all four teams tied at one point after Matchday 1, the stakes are high and the group remains wide open. Guinea, led by the likes of Mohamed Yattara, will be hoping to replicate their resilience and perhaps even snatch a decisive win.
