Faouzi Ghoulam was the standout performer in Algeria’s 3-1 victory over South Africa, earning the Man of the Match award for his decisive display in the Group C clash of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Napoli left-back made a significant impact by scoring Algeria’s second goal—a brilliant solo run finished with a thunderous strike that left no chance for the South African goalkeeper. This was the first goal scored by an Algerian player in the match, following an equalizer that came from a South African own goal.
Ghoulam’s goal shifted the momentum entirely in favor of the Fennecs, breaking the confidence of Bafana Bafana, who had initially taken the lead and even missed a penalty that could have doubled their advantage.
With this win, Algeria now tops Group C and will take on Ghana in their next crucial match on January 23.
