Aden McCarthy set for European move from Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs are close to cashing in on defender Aden McCarthy, with a European club reportedly ready to meet the price set by the Soweto giants.

The 22-year-old’s future now appears to be heading toward a transfer abroad after a breakout season in senior football, according to Soccer Laduma.

McCarthy signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal with Chiefs at the end of April, and that contract included a European buy-out clause. Chiefs moved quickly to protect one of their rising stars, making sure he would not leave for free after an impressive campaign.

The arrangement mirrors the one previously used for Siyabonga Ngezana, who later moved to Romanian club FCSB. In McCarthy’s case, the clause gives him a clear pathway to Europe if the right offer comes in.

This season, the defender made 26 appearances in all competitions and scored twice, showing steady growth and reliability at the back. After an earlier trial in Moldova did not work out, McCarthy has rebuilt his career strongly and now looks ready for the next step.

For Chiefs, the deal would bring in a fee rather than losing another young talent for nothing, while McCarthy gets the chance to chase his dream of playing overseas.
