Adama Traore’s unique skill set makes him one of world football’s rare talents - Nuno

West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo has highlighted Adama Traore’s extraordinary abilities, describing the winger as a player with a rare combination of pace, skill, and one-on-one prowess.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s trip to Fulham, Nuno stressed that Traore’s unique attributes set him apart in world football, but also require careful management off the field.

“Traore’s unique. There are not many players in world football with his ability, pace and skills in one-on-one situations,” Nuno said.

“He’s a talent that we have to take advantage of, but it will take time. He has to adapt and understand the dynamic of the team. But he’s proven in England and in the Spain squad not long ago, so we’re talking about a high-level player.”

Part of that management involves adjusting Traore’s training regimen. Despite his reputation for explosive strength, Nuno has instructed the former Wolves player to avoid weightlifting.

“It’s incredible, it’s genetics. His genetics have been like this for some time now and he should avoid the gym. I’ve told him to stay out of the gym. It’s enough weight that he carries,” the manager explained. Instead, Traore will focus on preventive and conditioning work to maintain his readiness while avoiding unnecessary strain.

Nuno contrasted Traore’s situation with other players who require traditional strength-building. Under-21 defender Airidas Golambeckis, for example, spends hours in the gym to add muscle, demonstrating the club’s tailored approach to physical development.

“We have to get weight on him. It’s the other way around,” Nuno noted, emphasizing the individualized focus for each player.
