Adama Traore set to join Deportivo La Coruna after West Ham exit

Adama Traore is expected to join Deportivo La Coruna on a free transfer after travelling to Spain to complete the move, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 30-year-old former West Ham winger is due to fly to Spain today as he prepares to sign for the Spanish club during the current summer transfer window.

Traore will become a free agent after West Ham United decided not to renew his contract following the end of the 2025-26 season. The London club were relegated to the English second tier, bringing the winger’s brief spell at the club to an end.

He joined West Ham during the most recent January transfer window from Fulham on a short-term contract running until the end of the season. Traore had fallen down the pecking order at Fulham before making the move.

His time with West Ham produced limited opportunities and he was unable to make a significant impact. Traore played 10 Premier League matches without scoring or providing an assist.

He did, however, register two assists in the FA Cup, setting up goals in fixtures against Brentford and Leeds United.

The proposed move to Deportivo La Coruna would mark Traore’s return to Spain, having left the country in 2022 when he spent a brief loan spell with former club Barcelona.

At Deportivo, Traore is set to link up again with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was his team-mate during his time at Barcelona.

Traore came through Barcelona’s academy before establishing himself in English football, where he played for Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham. However, the information surrounding his next move centres on a return to Spain and a fresh opportunity with Deportivo La Coruna.

Romano’s report indicates that the transfer is now close to completion, with Traore’s journey to Spain the next step before the agreement is finalised. The move will allow Deportivo to add an experienced wide player without paying a transfer fee, while Traore will look to rebuild his momentum after a short and largely uneventful period in London.

His arrival would also reunite him with Aubameyang, with whom he previously shared the Barcelona dressing room. The pair are now expected to work together again as Deportivo prepare for the next stage of the season.
