Adam Mekki: English left winger linked with Finland move to RoPS

Adam Mekki has completed a return to Rovaniemen Palloseura, signing for RoPS on a free transfer from Italian side ASD Trebisacce. The 23-year-old left winger joins the Ykkönen club after the Finnish side moved to secure his services without a transfer fee, with the deal taking effect from 2026-03-09. Details of the contract length have not been disclosed, and no formal market value is currently listed for the player.

The move brings the Finnish‑Algerian attacker back to his hometown club, where he previously featured for RoPS’ U19 and reserve sides before embarking on a nomadic early career. RoPS, competing in Finland’s second tier, add a right‑footed wide player who is comfortable operating on the left of the attack and offers pace and directness in wide areas.

Mekki’s switch from Trebisacce to RoPS continues a pattern of alternating between spells in Finland and Italy. After coming through the RoPS youth ranks and playing for Rovaniemen Palloseura II, he became a free agent, then moved to Italian clubs US Savoia 1908 and Giugliano Calcio 1928. Subsequent releases saw him return to Finland with SJK Seinäjoki II, where his market value on Transfermarkt rose as high as €25,000, before further domestic moves to Jakobstads Bollklubb on loan and Salon Palloilijat. Short periods without a club punctuated those transfers, underlining how quickly he can again become a free agent when contracts expire.

More recently, after leaving Salon Palloilijat, Mekki again spent time unattached before signing for Trebisacce in Italy. His latest transfer now takes him back to RoPS’ first team, offering the Ykkönen side additional depth in wide attacking positions. At 1.83 m tall and still only 23, he fits the profile of a player with both physical presence and developmental upside.

Mekki was born in Rovaniemi and holds dual nationality, representing both Finland and Algeria at national level in terms of eligibility. His club career to date has included experience in Finnish lower divisions and the Italian game, but the data does not specify exact leagues or detailed performance statistics such as appearances, goals, or assists for his previous teams. There is likewise no confirmed current market valuation attached to this latest move, and the transfer is explicitly registered as a free transfer.

The winger has also experienced loan movement, notably a temporary switch from SJK Seinäjoki II to Jakobstads Bollklubb before being recalled at the end of that loan. His market value peaked during his time with SJK Seinäjoki II and remained at that level while at Salon Palloilijat, before dropping to zero when he was again without a club.

With this confirmed transfer to RoPS, Mekki’s immediate future is secured in the Ykkönen, but the absence of an announced contract end date means his situation could evolve quickly once the current agreement expires. Should RoPS choose not to extend his deal in future, his history shows there is a realistic possibility of him re‑entering the free‑agent market, leaving his next step once again open.
