Morocco: Achraf Hakimi backed by PSG supporters as rape case heads to trial
Achraf Hakimi was supported by Paris Saint-Germain fans on Wednesday night, a day after returning to court to face a rape accusation.
The Morocco international, who has been referred to a criminal court to stand trial on rape charges, received public backing from the club’s main supporters’ group during a Champions League play-off second leg against AS Monaco.
Members of the Collectif Ultras Paris displayed a banner inside the stadium in a show of solidarity with the right-back.
The message read: “Achraf, total support ,”
The gesture came amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the 26-year-old defender.
Hakimi appeared in court on Tuesday as part of the case in which he has been accused of rape.
He denies the allegation.
The banner was unveiled during the European fixture, placing the spotlight on the issue during one of the club’s most high-profile matches of the season.
Paris Saint-Germain’s players were also described as offering support to their team-mate during the encounter.
Hakimi has continued to feature for PSG while the legal process unfolds.
The case is now set to be examined by a criminal court following the decision to proceed to trial.
Neither the club nor the player made a fresh public statement during the match, but the message displayed by supporters underlined the backing he retains among sections of the fanbase.
The development marks the latest chapter in a case that has drawn significant attention in France and beyond, involving one of the club’s most prominent players.
