Achraf Hakimi injury concern after Bayern match raises World Cup fears
Concerns have emerged over the fitness of Achraf Hakimi after the Paris Saint-Germain defender ended the match against FC Bayern Munich in visible discomfort following a late injury scare.
The Moroccan international was forced to continue the closing stages of the game while dealing with muscle cramps, after PSG had already used all available substitutions.
In an unusual tactical adjustment, he briefly moved from his right-back position into a more advanced role up front to see out the match.
After the final whistle, PSG captain Marquinhos attempted to ease concerns, saying: “He told me it was just cramps in his thigh. We’ll see.”
However, head coach Luis Enrique remained cautious when asked about the player’s condition. He said: “I don’t know anything about Hakimi’s condition at the moment.
We’ll see on Wednesday what his situation is, but I can’t confirm anything right now,” leaving uncertainty over the severity of the issue.
Further reports suggest growing attention from Morocco’s national team setup. According to sources, head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has already contacted Hakimi directly to check on his condition, particularly as this is the second physical concern involving the player in a short space of time.
In addition, Morocco’s team doctor Christophe Baudot has reportedly been advised to liaise with PSG’s medical department in order to gather more detailed information on the defender’s situation.
The timing of the concern is significant, with worries increasing about a potential serious injury less than two months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
Hakimi’s workload has been heavy in recent months. Following participation in the Club World Cup under demanding conditions, he also featured at the Africa Cup of Nations before continuing a packed club schedule with PSG, who are now preparing for another Champions League final campaign.
With both club and country monitoring developments closely, further medical assessments are expected to determine whether the defender will face any extended absence.
