Achraf Hakimi among finalists for 2024 CAF African player of the year
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the list of finalists for the prestigious 2024 CAF Awards, with Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi securing a spot among the top contenders for African Player of the Year. The awards, set to take place in Marrakech on December 16, will honour exceptional talent and achievement in African football for the period between January and October 2024.
Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain and the Moroccan national team, is one of five finalists in the highly competitive African Player of the Year category.
He faces stiff competition from Ivorian forward Simon Adingra, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, who represents Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
Also on the list are Nigerian Ademola Lookman, currently at Atalanta, and South African Ronwen Williams, goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns.
In the Young Player of the Year category, Moroccan Eliesse Ben Seghir, who shines for AS Monaco, is also in the running for the accolade.
He will compete against players such as Ivorian Karim Konaté (Salzburg), Oumar Diakité (Reims), Yankuba Minteh (Brighton & Hove Albion), and Senegal’s Lamine Camara (AS Monaco).
In addition to individual awards, the CAF has revealed the finalists for Club of the Year, which features some of the continent’s most successful sides.
Renaissance de Berkane, Mamelodi Sundowns, Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek, and Tunisia’s Esperance Sportive de Tunis have all earned a spot among the five finalists for this prestigious recognition.
