Achraf Bencharki has opened up about his strong relationship with Mahmoud Trezeguet, shedding light on their time together at Al Rayyan and their reunion at Al Ahly.
The Moroccan forward, who joined the Egyptian giants during the winter transfer window, shared his thoughts on their bond and the warm reception he extended to the Egyptian international in Qatar.
Bencharki and Trezeguet: A growing friendship
Bencharki, 30, arrived at Al Ahly from Al Rayyan, marking his return to North African football after stints in Morocco, France, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
Since his debut, the former Wydad Casablanca star has wasted no time making an impact, scoring twice in his first two appearances for the Red Devils.
In a recent interview, he spoke about his previous experience playing alongside Trezeguet in the Qatar Stars League and how their connection developed.
When Trezeguet came to Al Rayyan in Qatar, I went to talk to him and told him: ‘I am your brother here because I have dealt with Egyptians before, and they have always been good to me.
From that moment, we became very close,” Bencharki revealed.
The camaraderie between the two players blossomed during their time at Al Rayyan, with Bencharki ensuring that Trezeguet felt welcome upon his arrival.
Their on-field chemistry also strengthened, as both played key roles in Al Rayyan’s campaign before moving on to new challenges.
A new chapter at Al Ahly
Trezeguet, currently on loan at Al Rayyan from Trabzonspor, is set to complete a permanent move to Al Ahly at the end of the season on a five-year contract.
His impending arrival in Cairo will reunite him with Bencharki, offering the duo another opportunity to play together—this time in one of Africa’s most decorated clubs.
For Al Ahly, the addition of these two experienced attackers signals their ambition to maintain dominance both domestically and on the continental stage.
With Bencharki already settling in and showcasing his goal-scoring ability, the anticipation surrounding Trezeguet’s arrival continues to grow.
Their partnership could prove crucial for Al Ahly as they aim for silverware in the Egyptian Premier League and CAF Champions League.
Fans will be eager to see how their established understanding on the pitch translates to success for the Cairo-based club in the coming months.
