Asante Kotoko’s assistant coach, David Ocloo, conceded that Accra Lions outperformed and outpaced his team in their recent clash during the 2023-24 Ghana Premier League match week 21, resulting in a 3-2 loss for the Porcupine Warriors.
The match saw Accra Lions taking an early lead, with Blessing Asumah Dankwa finding the back of the net just eleven minutes into the game.
Despite Asante Kotoko’s efforts to mount a comeback, Accra Lions maintained their control and clinched a crucial 3-2 victory.
Speaking in a post-match interview with StarTimes, Ocloo expressed disappointment at the defeat while acknowledging Accra Lions’ commendable performance.
He credited the Lions for their superior endurance and agility on the field, highlighting these qualities as pivotal in modern football.
“Yes, like you rightly said, it is very, very disappointing. But congratulations to Accra Lions, they played well and they deserved to win,” Ocloo remarked to StarTimes after the match.
“Accra Lions ran more than us; football now is about running and they did it better than us today and they got the game.”
Despite the setback, Asante Kotoko remains in fourth place on the league standings with 32 points, trailing leaders Samartex by three points.
Meanwhile, Accra Lions’ victory propelled them from 14th to 10th place on the table, amassing 27 points from 20 matches.
