AC Reggiana has officially declared the return of Nigerian striker Orji Okwonkwo to the team after a two-year suspension for doping. The talented forward is set to join the club’s training sessions starting tomorrow and is scheduled to make his official comeback on February 25.
The news was communicated through an official press release issued by AC Reggiana on Tuesday, February 6.
The statement highlighted that following a positive response from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal regarding AC Reggiana’s request under Art. 11.14.2 of the Anti-Doping Sports Code, Orji Okwonkwo would be reinstated into the team from tomorrow onwards. The striker will actively participate in training sessions under the guidance of coach Alessandro Nesta.
Two years ago, on February 25, 2022, the CONI National Anti-Doping Tribunal imposed a suspension on the then 24-year-old Nigerian striker after he tested positive for Clostebol, a steroid anabolic.
Despite arguments claiming accidental usage, the tribunal did not accept this explanation. Consequently, on June 20, 2022, Okwonkwo received a suspension extending until February 24, 2026.
However, the striker, whose contract with FC Bologna was extended until June 30, 2026, seized an opportunity for a fresh start. On February 1, 2023, Okwonkwo was loaned to AC Reggiana, opening a new chapter in his football journey.
The return of Orji Okwonkwo to AC Reggiana is eagerly awaited by fans and football enthusiasts alike.
The club looks forward to his contributions on the field, and Okwonkwo aims to make a significant impact in the upcoming matches. As the talented striker resumes training, AC Reggiana anticipates a positive trajectory in their journey with Okwonkwo back in action.
