Abdullah Avcı, the former coach of Trabzonspor and the Turkish national team, has entered the conversation as Al Ahly looks for a new manager.

His name has quickly gathered attention as the Cairo giants weigh their options for a fresh start after parting ways with Spaniard Jose Riveiro.

The appearance of vice president Khaled Mortagy at the club’s headquarters in Al-Gezira on Saturday eased speculation that he had traveled to Switzerland to meet Urs Fischer. Reports linking Fischer grew, but an Al Ahly source told Kooora that, “Fischer is indeed one of Al Ahly’s options, but the Red Devils have not negotiated with him yet.”

The same source clarified, “Khaled Mortagy has absolutely nothing to do with the new coach’s case, and matters are within the Football Planning Committee headed by Yassin Mansour.”

Avcı is among the names considered, alongside Rui Vitoria and Ramon Diaz. The final decision is expected this week, with urgency building as Al Ahly prepares for its upcoming campaign after the Zamalek clash.

Currently, Al Ahly sits 10th in the Egyptian League table with nine points.
