Abdelrahman Abdeen: Al Ahly confirm young defender’s permanent move to Wadi Degla

Al Ahly have confirmed that 20-year-old defender Ahmed Abdeen has left the club to join Wadi Degla in a permanent transfer.

The Cairo giants announced the deal on Thursday, stating that an agreement had been reached following negotiations between the two clubs. Wadi Degla, however, have not yet disclosed the length of Abdeen’s contract or the transfer fee involved.

Abdeen, who plays as a centre-back, becomes Wadi Degla’s fourth signing ahead of the new season, following the arrivals of Mohamed Fathy, Mahmoud Abdel Halim “Halimo” and Mohamed Soliman.

Al Ahly statement and player’s motivation

In an official statement, Al Ahly said they had approved the transfer after talks with Wadi Degla, with the club’s head of recruitment, Essam Sirag El-Din, completing all financial and administrative procedures between the two sides.

The club made clear that the move comes primarily in response to the player’s desire for more regular first-team football and a clearer pathway to develop his career.

According to the statement, the decision was taken “to meet the player’s wish to gain a bigger opportunity to participate in official matches and acquire more experience, especially as he is one of the promising talents who possess outstanding abilities in the centre-back position”.

Abdeen, described by Al Ahly as one of their academy products, expressed his gratitude to the club on his departure and underlined his ambition to return in the future.

He thanked Al Ahly “as one of the sons of the club”, and pledged to double his efforts in the coming period in order to come back to Al Ahly and “take part with my team-mates in bringing joy to the fans at domestic and continental level”.

From Wadi Degla academy to Al Ahly and back

Abdeen originally came through the youth ranks at Wadi Degla before moving to Al Ahly’s youth set-up in 2021, eventually progressing to the first team.

Despite his promise, he struggled to secure a regular place in Al Ahly’s senior side, featuring in just four matches for the club.

In search of playing time, the Egypt Under-20 international was sent out on loan twice to Ceramica Cleopatra, where he made six appearances in total.

Now, with a return to his first club Wadi Degla, Abdeen is expected to have a clearer opportunity to play regularly and continue his development in his preferred position at centre-back.

International experience with Egypt Under-20s

Abdeen has already built up notable experience at youth international level with Egypt.

He was part of the Egypt Under-20 squad that finished fourth at the 2025 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, contributing to the team’s run at the continental tournament.

The defender was also included in Egypt’s squad for the 2025 Under-20 World Cup, where the team exited at the group stage. During that competition, Abdeen scored once, finding the net against Chile.

At 20, Abdeen’s career remains at an early stage, but Wadi Degla will hope his combination of academy grounding, top-flight exposure with Al Ahly and Ceramica Cleopatra, and international youth experience can strengthen their defensive options for the coming campaign.
