Togolese footballer Mani Ougadja retires after glittering career

Togolese football icon Mani Ougadja has bid farewell to his illustrious playing career, announcing his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. The attacking midfielder, renowned for his contributions to the Togolese football landscape, shared the news of his retirement via a heartfelt message on his official Facebook page.

In a poignant post, Ougadja expressed the bittersweet emotions accompanying his decision to hang up his boots, describing it as one of the most significant and challenging moments of his sporting journey.

Reflecting on his remarkable 13-year career, which was exclusively spent in the local championship, Ougadja reminisced about his time representing various Togolese clubs, including Etecon, As Togo Port (Barracuda), Asko de Kara, As OTR, and Asck.

Throughout his tenure in the Togolese D1 league, Ougadja’s stellar performances earned him recognition at the national level, culminating in numerous appearances for the Togolese national team.

As a stalwart of the A’ selection, Ougadja showcased his talent on the international stage, featuring prominently in several Chan qualifiers and tournament finals.

His wealth of experience also extended to the African club competitions, with appearances in the prestigious African Champions League and Caf Cup.

In bidding farewell to his playing career, Ougadja hinted at the possibility of transitioning into coaching or assuming a role within a coaching staff, underscoring his enduring passion for the beautiful game.

While acknowledging the significance of this milestone, Ougadja expressed optimism for the future, emphasizing that the journey continues beyond the pitch.

“This is not the end, but rather a new beginning,” remarked the Togolese international in his farewell message, hinting at the prospect of future encounters in his evolving football journey.

As Togo bids adieu to one of its footballing stalwarts, Ougadja’s legacy as a consummate professional and ambassador for the sport will endure, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of fans and aspiring footballers alike.
