Fernando Suarez, the coach of the Honduras national team, has taken an early initiative by announcing the final list of 23 players selected to participate in the upcoming World Cup in Brazil. This makes him the first coach to reveal his team’s roster, just five weeks before the tournament kicks off on June 12.
Among the selected players, 13 ply their trade outside of Honduras. The team will commence its training camp on May 12 in Fort Lauderdale, United States. During this preparation period, Honduras will play friendly matches against Turkey on May 29 in Washington, the Israeli national team on June 1 in Houston, and England on June 6 in Miami. In addition to these friendlies, Honduras is grouped with France, Ecuador, and Switzerland in the World Cup.
All 32 participating countries in the 2014 World Cup are required to submit a provisional list of 30 players to FIFA by May 13, with the final 23-player squad to be submitted by June 2.
