In the first preliminary round of the CAN 2015 qualifiers, Mauritania took a crucial step towards qualification by defeating Mauritius in Nouakchott. Despite dominating the game, the Mourabitounes managed to secure a narrow victory with a lone goal scored by Adama Ba, who plays for Bastia, from a free kick in the 23rd minute.
Although Mauritania showcased strong performance throughout the match, creating several scoring opportunities, they were unable to capitalize on them, leaving the game with just one goal. Notably, the absence of their captain Dominique Da Silva, due to administrative reasons, didn’t deter the team’s determination.
The return leg of the fixture is scheduled for April 20 at the George V Stadium in Curepipe, where Mauritania will aim to maintain their advantage and secure qualification for the next stage of the CAN 2015 qualifiers.
