The Minister of Sports and Community Life of Senegal, Mbagnick Ndiaye, disclosed this information during a visit to the site. He emphasized that the entire infrastructure, including the pitch, stands, locker rooms, and press stand, needs to be redone. The stadium, inaugurated as part of cooperation with China in 1985, has never undergone a renovation to restore its status as the temple of Senegalese sport.
Following numerous delays, authorities finally initiated a call for tenders, resulting in the selection of a local Senegalese company to commence the renovation work. The allocated budget of 735 million FCFA will be utilized for this major renovation project.
In addition to the Léopold Senghor stadium, the renovation project also includes the Amadou Barry stadium in Guédiawaye, which is expected to host the U20 or Can cadet in 2015. The renovation of the Amadou Barry stadium will require a budget of 630 million FCFA. Therefore, the total budget for the renovation of both stadiums amounts to 1.405 billion FCFA.
According to the terms agreed upon by the parties involved, both stadiums are expected to be delivered by the end of July, as stated by the Minister of Sports.
