Manchester City took a significant step towards clinching the Premier League title with a convincing win over Southampton at home in the opening match of the 33rd day of the English championship. The game started with City asserting their dominance early on.

Just two minutes into the match, Dzeko was fouled in the area by Fonte, resulting in a penalty for City. Yaya Touré stepped up and confidently converted the penalty, giving City the lead (1-0, 3′). Southampton managed to equalize through Lambert’s penalty after a foul by Zabaleta (1-1, 37′).

However, City quickly regained the lead before halftime. Silva, in an offside position, provided a pass to Nasri, who restored City’s lead (2-1, 46′). Right after Nasri’s goal, Dzeko scored City’s third goal with a close-range header from a Kolarov cross (3-1, 47′).

In the second half, Kompany’s precise pass found Navas on the right flank, who then assisted Jovetic for City’s fourth goal (4-1, 81′).

City’s victory was comprehensive, showcasing their dominance over an attractive Southampton team. With this win, City increased the pressure on Liverpool at the top of the table, ahead of their crucial clash at Anfield next week.
