FC Metz’s right-back, Koffi Kouao, made a triumphant return to the pitch last Saturday in a match against Monaco, contributing two crucial assists in a 2-5 victory. Following his impressive comeback, the Ivorian player addressed his prolonged absence and the speculations surrounding it.

Kouao had been sidelined from Ligue 1 action since December 3, 2023, following an injury sustained during a match against Lille.

Amid competition from Maxime Colin and under the management of Laszlo Bölöni, Kouao faced a challenging period, with limited appearances, including a solitary start in the Coupe de France.

The Ivorian defender’s potential transfer during the winter transfer window further complicated matters, fueling rumors of his isolation within the team.

However, Kouao vehemently dismissed these allegations, stating, “I would like to correct a little what has been said in the press.

They said I was a little isolated from the group because of my aborted transfer, that’s not the case. There is no one happier than me in the locker room!”

Despite the setbacks, Kouao’s determination remained unwavering. His return to the starting lineup against Monaco showcased his readiness and commitment to the team, as he played a pivotal role in securing the victory with two well-timed assists.

Reflecting on his performance, Kouao expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It’s been four months since I last played a league match and I’ve always done well.

I was always at the coach’s service, and he knew very well that I was ready. […] I think I sent him a good message.”

Kouao’s impactful return to the pitch not only underscores his resilience but also serves as a testament to his dedication to FC Metz.

As he looks ahead, the Ivorian defender aims to build on his recent success and continue making significant contributions to his team’s campaign in Ligue 1.
