Swedish football club IF Elfsborg has made waves in the transfer market with the acquisition of promising Ghanaian defender Rufai Mohammed from Ghana’s Inter Allies FC.

The talented centre-back, Rufai, has signed a contract with IF Elfsborg that extends through the 2028 season, marking a significant step in his burgeoning career.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Rufai shared his sentiments with the club’s website, stating, “I’m very happy to be here.

The people I’ve met in and around the team are amazing and very helpful.”

Rufai’s journey to IF Elfsborg began with a visit to the club in the spring of 2023, during which he trained with the U19 squad and featured in matches with the U21 team.

This initial experience left a lasting impression on the young defender, fueling his desire to join the club on a permanent basis.

“Even then, I felt strongly that I wanted to come back and become an Elfsborg player for real,” Rufai reflected on his initial stint with the club.

Despite the move to a new environment, IF Elfsborg holds some familiarity for Rufai, thanks to the presence of fellow Ghanaian player Jalal Abdullai in the first team.

Rufai and Abdullai share a long-standing connection, having grown up together in the same village in northern Ghana and received their foundational football training at Inter Allies FC’s academy, known as Cedar Stars.

Their journey from grassroots football in Ghana to professional contracts with IF Elfsborg exemplifies the opportunities available to young talents from underrepresented football regions.

Rufai’s transfer to IF Elfsborg marks a significant milestone in his career, offering him the chance to continue his development in the competitive environment of Swedish football.

As he embarks on this new chapter, all eyes will be on Rufai Mohammed as he seeks to make his mark on the international stage.
