Olympiacos Piraeus secures permanent signing of David Carmo from FC Porto

David Carmo’s stint at Olympiacos Piraeus is set to transition into a permanent arrangement as the Greek club exercises its option to purchase the Angolan defender from FC Porto.

The 24-year-old, who joined FC Porto from Sporting Club for a hefty fee exceeding 20 million euros, found limited opportunities in the starting lineup due to the consistent performances of Pépé, despite his advancing years.

Seeking regular playing time, Carmo opted for a loan move to Olympiacos Piraeus in January 2024, where he swiftly established himself as a pivotal figure in the club’s defensive setup.

Following his impressive displays, Olympiacos Piraeus has signaled its intention to retain Carmo on a permanent basis by activating the purchase option stipulated in his loan agreement.

The decision was confirmed by Pinto da Costa, president of FC Porto, who revealed that Carmo would not be returning to the Portuguese side.

“David Carmo is on loan from Olympiacos Piraeus and he will not return,” stated da Costa. “We will not lose the 20 million euros invested.

Part of it has already been written off, and the club where he is on loan has already told us that it will activate the clause of 17.5 million euros.”

The move represents a significant investment for Olympiacos Piraeus, as they commit to paying 17.5 million euros to secure Carmo’s services permanently.

The impending announcement of Carmo’s permanent signing is anticipated in the coming days, marking a new chapter in his professional journey with the Greek club.

Carmo’s seamless integration into Olympiacos Piraeus and the club’s decisive move to secure his long-term future underscore the significance of his contributions and the belief in his potential as a key asset in their defensive lineup.
