Otto Addo, the head coach of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, has shed light on his decision to appoint former players Joseph Laumann, John Paintsil, and Fatawu Dauda as his assistants.
Having assembled his backroom staff, which includes former Black Stars players Paintsil and Dauda alongside Moroccan-German coach Laumann, Addo expressed his satisfaction with the team he has assembled.
Addo, who himself enjoyed a distinguished career as a player, cited his existing familiarity with the trio as a key factor in his selection process.
He emphasized the positive impact each assistant brings to the team dynamic.
“I knew all of them before the job,” Addo stated. “I played with John Paintsil together. For Fatawu Dauda, I met him in 2014 at the World Cup, and it was nice to get together to share ideas and also to fit.”
In particular, Addo highlighted Laumann’s expertise, describing him as an “absolute expert” with keen situational awareness and a discerning eye for both constructive and detrimental elements within the team.
He emphasized the valuable contributions each assistant has made to the team’s development and cohesion.
With Laumann serving as the first assistant, Paintsil as the second, and Dauda assuming the role of goalkeeper’s trainer, Addo expressed his gratitude for their collective input, noting that their contributions have already resulted in tangible improvements during the team’s initial training sessions.
As the Black Stars prepare for upcoming challenges on the international stage, including crucial qualifying matches, the cohesive collaboration between Addo and his seasoned assistants bodes well for Ghana’s footballing ambitions, instilling confidence in fans and players alike.
