So far, Paris Saint-Germain’s president has maintained a low profile regarding Edinson Cavani. There have been rumors suggesting that the Uruguayan striker may seek to depart from the capital due to dissatisfaction with his playing position and the dominant presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. These speculations might finally prompt the affluent Qatari owner to intervene.
However, in response to queries from “Le Parisien,” Nasser El-Khelaïfi dismissed these rumors, emphasizing that it’s out of the question for Cavani, who was recruited for €64 million from Napoli last summer, to leave during the off-season. El-Khelaïfi praised Cavani as one of the world’s best players, highlighting his remarkable athleticism and scoring abilities. He also noted that Cavani and Ibrahimovic complement each other well on the field, forming a highly effective duo.
Additionally, the newspaper reported that Cavani, who already earns a monthly net salary of €478,000, could receive a salary review after the World Cup. This aligns with a pattern among PSG’s star players: expressing dissatisfaction during their first season in Paris to negotiate higher salaries during the off-season. This strategy proved successful for Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, and it appears to be yielding results for Cavani as well, especially after his recent personal setbacks.
