LIGUE 1-LYON: GARDE LOOKS BACK ON THE EXIT OF BAKARY KONÉ

Rémi Garde’s decision to substitute Bakary Koné during the match against Bordeaux last Sunday was a tactical one aimed at neutralizing Bordeaux’s set-piece threat, particularly from striker Hoarau. Despite his dissatisfaction, Koné accepted the decision and made way for Jimmy Briand, a move that ultimately paid off for the team.

Speaking to Progrès, Garde acknowledged the difficulty of the decision and understood Koné’s disappointment. He emphasized that the substitution was not a reflection of Koné’s performance but rather a strategic adjustment to counter Bordeaux’s strengths. Garde reassured Koné that he would have ample opportunities to showcase his abilities in future matches.

This acknowledgment from the coach is likely to reassure Koné and strengthen his confidence in the team’s tactical decisions, fostering a positive atmosphere within the squad.
