Nigerian striker Stephen Worgu, the top scorer of the 2008 Champions League, has made a significant move by signing for Al Hilal in Sudan. Reflecting on his journey, Worgu expressed gratitude for the opportunity and discussed the challenges he faced along the way.
“I’ve signed a four-year contract with Al Hilal. After my loan spell at Ahly Benghazi, Libya, in 2010, I returned to Sudan but encountered several injuries that sidelined me. It was a tough period, but I’m glad to say that everything is back to normal now,” he shared on the official CAF website.
Despite his departure, Worgu acknowledged the mixed reactions from Al Merreik supporters, stating, “The proposal from Al Hilal came unexpectedly. I didn’t hesitate to accept it because I needed a fresh start, hoping to overcome my setbacks. I’m grateful to the club for believing in me and taking a chance. It’s a new challenge, especially considering the fierce rivalry between the two big Sudanese clubs. I understand that my decision may not have pleased everyone at Al Merreikh.”
