The incident involving Nicolas Anelka and his “quenelle” gesture dates back to December 28.
During a match between West Bromwich Albion and West Ham, Anelka celebrated a goal by performing the controversial gesture, which some consider to be anti-Semitic.
Anelka defended his action, claiming it was a dedication to his friend Dieudonné, a controversial French comedian.
The English Football Federation (FA) will be hearing the case at the beginning of next week. Anelka faces at least a five-match suspension for his gesture, which is deemed abusive, indecent, insulting, and potentially related to ethnic origin, race, or religion.
Anelka maintains that he is neither anti-Semitic nor racist, but the FA will decide on the appropriate action.
