Eliaquim Mangala is causing a stir in the final hours of the winter transfer window. Reports from the English press suggest that Manchester City, long-time admirers of the player, have intensified their efforts to secure his signature. It’s reported that the Sky Blues have tabled a €46 million offer to Porto for the 22-year-old French defender, who is contracted to the Portuguese club until 2016.
Further reports indicate that Manchester City’s bid is not limited to Mangala alone. They have reportedly included a proposal to also acquire Brazilian midfielder Fernando, who is set to become a free agent in June. The overall package offered by City for both players is said to be around €55 million, as reported by the Daily Mirror.
While the financial offer is enticing, it remains to be seen whether Mangala, of Congolese origin, will be persuaded to make the move to Manchester City.
