On the morning of Friday, March 8, 2024, the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation carried out search and seizure warrants at the South African Football Association’s headquarters, the SAFA House.
These warrants were prompted by serious allegations of fraud and theft totalling R1.3 million.
It was revealed that between 2014 and 2018, the SAFA president had been using the organization’s resources for his own personal gain.
This included hiring a private security company for his protection and utilizing a public relations firm without proper authorization from the SAFA Board.
According to reports, the president’s actions went against SAFA’s statutes and resulted in a substantial loss of R1.3 million for the organization.
As a result, the search was conducted to gather evidence and hold the individual accountable for their actions.
The items seized during the search included a laptop, external hard drives, a USB, and various documents.
Such misconduct and misuse of resources by a high-ranking member of SAFA is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation will continue to thoroughly investigate this matter and ensure that justice is served.
The SAFA Board stands united in its commitment to upholding the principles of integrity and honesty within the organization.
