Four players from Zamalek’s first football team, summoned for the Egyptian Cup final against Al Ahly, reminisce about a joyful memory at “Al-Aoul Park”, where they lifted the Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup with their teammates nearly five and a half years ago, following their victory, led by Swiss coach Christian Gross, over Al Hilal, with a score of 2-1.
Remaining from the team that faced Al Hilal are defenders Mahmoud Hamdi El-Wensh and Mahmoud Alaa, left-back Ahmed Fatouh, and midfielder Youssef Obama.
Meanwhile, those who departed from the “White Castle” include the champions of the Super Cup from both countries as well as Gross.
El-Wensh, Alaa, and Obama played, while Fatouh remained on the bench.
During that historic match, Congolese striker Kabongo Kasongo and Tunisian defender Hamdi El Nagguez scored for Zamalek, while Syrian forward Omar Khribin netted for the “Blue Wave” under the guidance of then-coach, Portuguese Jorge Jesus, who returned last summer.
On the same pitch, Zamalek and Al Ahly will meet on Friday in an unprecedented Egyptian Cup final.
For the first time, a match from the competition, which began 103 years ago, will be played outside Egyptian stadiums.
This unique event adds another layer of excitement to the highly anticipated clash between Egypt’s two football giants.
