Wadi Degla Football Club has officially sent a letter to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) seeking clarification regarding the mechanism for determining the promoted teams to the Premier League in case of a tie in points between two or more teams.
The Egyptian Premier League is witnessing intense competition, with Petrojet leading the standings with 45 points, followed closely by Wadi Degla with 38 points in second place, and Haras El Hodoud in third place with 36 points, with Ghazl El Mahalla and Lavanah rounding out the top five with 35 and 33 points respectively.
This season marks the inaugural edition of the Egyptian Premier League, comprising 20 teams.
The top two teams automatically qualify for the Premier League, while the third-placed team will compete in playoffs against the top teams from the Cairo, Alexandria, and Upper Egypt groups in the second division to determine the third promoted team.
According to Wadi Degla’s media center, although the EFA has provided clubs with regulations, this particular clause lacks clarity.
There is a demand for elucidation, especially since the regulation implies that direct confrontations would settle ties in determining qualifiers or relegations.
However, it does not specify whether these confrontations occur only in the second phase of the league or in both the first and second phases.
Wadi Degla stated, “There is considerable frustration among professional clubs due to the lack of clarity in this regulation.
Despite sending formal inquiries for clarification, the Egyptian Football Association has not officially responded or clarified the matter so far, despite the competitions nearing their conclusion.”
