Ahmed Hegazi, captain of the Saudi club Al-Ittihad, conceded that the outcome of their match against Al-Hilal in the first leg of the AFC Champions League quarter-finals was not the best for “Al-Ameed” (The Brigadier).
On Tuesday, Al-Ittihad suffered a 2-0 defeat, with goals from Alexander Mitrovic and Salem Al-Dawsari.
Hegazi remarked, “The result is not the best for us. We played away from our home ground, and we have a match awaiting us on our own turf next week.
We played well in the first half, but we lost our focus in just two minutes.”
“I didn’t see the penalty,” he continued, “but I believe we could have handled the game better than what happened.”
He further added, “In the second half, with the dismissal of our player N’Golo Kanté, Al-Hilal had a significant advantage, but we put up a good fight after the red card.”
Regarding the chances of turning the tie around in Jeddah, he stated, “Nothing is impossible. Our opportunity still exists.”
