The draw for the fifth edition of the Under-23 West Asian Championship has been conducted, with the Egyptian Olympic team placed in Group C alongside the United Arab Emirates.

Scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia from March 18 to 26, the tournament serves as a friendly competition for participating teams.

Led by Brazilian coach Rogerio Micale, Egypt’s Olympic squad sees this championship as a crucial part of their preparations for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

A total of eight teams are competing in the tournament: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, South Korea, Thailand, and Australia.

The draw resulted in the following groups:

  • Group A: Saudi Arabia and Jordan
  • Group B: South Korea and Thailand
  • Group C: Egypt and UAE
  • Group D: Iraq and Australia

The Egyptian Olympic team is set to commence their training camp at the Olympic City in the New Administrative Capital starting March 14, before departing Cairo on March 18.

Mahmoud Harb, the team’s administrative director, announced that the coaching staff, under Micale’s guidance, has decided to call up four professional players for the tournament: Iyad Al-Asqualani, Omar Fayyad, Mostafa Ashraf, and Bilal Mazhar.
