Modern Future secured a resounding 5-0 victory over Al-Hilal in a match held at the Salam Stadium during the sixth round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Modern Future’s quintet of goals came from Ali Zaazoua, Mohamed Saadak, Joseph Ngwem, and a brace from Ahmed Atef.
This triumph stands as the most significant for Egyptian teams in the Confederation Cup group stages.
Currently led by Zoran Manolović, former manager of Al-Ittihad Alexandria, Al-Hilal struggled to contain Modern Footage’s relentless attack.
With this win, Modern Future secured their place in the quarterfinals, finishing second in their group behind Algeria’s Union Sportive Médina d’Alger, who clinched the top spot after defeating SuperSport United.
This quarterfinal qualification marks a historic moment for Modern Future, marking their first advancement beyond the group stage in the tournament’s history, having exited at the same stage last season.
Modern Future now joins the ranks of potential opponents for Zamalek in the upcoming round.
The scoring spree began with Zaazoua finding the net in the penalty area, followed by Saadak’s impressive individual effort just before halftime.
In the second half, Atef extended Modern Future’s lead in the 55th minute, capitalizing on Zaazoua’s header that rebounded off the crossbar.
Ngwem added the fourth goal in the 69th minute with a precise shot into the corner following a pass from Saadak.
Atef sealed Modern Future’s victory with a one-on-one finish in the 88th minute.
Al-Hilal, on the other hand, concludes their group stage campaign in third place, exiting the tournament.
