Portuguese manager Jose Gomez, the head coach of Zamalek’s first football team, finds himself in a state of perplexity ahead of his team’s encounter with Al Ahly in the Egypt Cup final scheduled for March 8th.
The match is set to be officiated by a foreign refereeing crew, and Gomez is particularly puzzled about his goalkeeping options.
According to sources close to “Al Masry Al Youm,” Gomez is wrestling with the decision between Mohamed Awad and Mohamed Sobhi for the starting goalkeeper position against Al Ahly.
As of now, Sobhi seems to have the edge in guarding the White Knights’ net in the Egypt Cup final.
Gomez is keen on ensuring the readiness of all his players before facing Al Ahly in the Egypt Cup final, as he recognizes the tactical necessity of every element within the squad to navigate through the mounting fixture pressure in both the African Confederation Cup and the league.
Meanwhile, the White Knights’ coach has settled on making some adjustments to his lineup against the Guinean champions, anticipating the return of Ahmed Hamdi and Mohamed Shokry to the starting eleven, especially with the confirmed absence of Abdullah El Said, Saif Jaafar, and Nasser Maher due to their non-inclusion in the African squad list.
In another development, Waleed El-Attar, the Executive Director of the Egyptian Football Association, affirmed that the association will receive $2 million from hosting the Egypt Cup final between Al Ahly and Zamalek in Saudi Arabia.
