Vladimir Petković, the newly appointed coach of Algeria’s national football team, emerged on August 15, 1963, in the former Yugoslavia, with hopes that his tenure will ignite the aspirations and dreams of the national squad starting from March of the upcoming year.
Possessing a strong charisma, Petković’s primary task will be to instill discipline within the national team before venturing into African and international football competitions.
Petković is hailed as one of the finest coaches to have graced the Swiss national team, despite his origins lying elsewhere, having previously held Croatian and Bosnian nationalities.
While his playing career didn’t boast remarkable achievements, Petković’s coaching prowess garnered global attention, notably leading Lazio to clinch the Italian Cup, the “Coppa Italia,” in 2013.
Furthermore, he masterminded France’s elimination from Euro 2020.
His coaching journey has taken him across various clubs in more than four leagues, including a stint with Lazio and leading Servette FC and FC Lugano to prominence in Switzerland, where the latter currently tops the league standings.
His most recent club managerial experience was with Bordeaux in France, albeit short-lived, lasting only a few months before his dismissal.
Now, all eyes are on what Petković’s footballing acumen will bring to the “Desert Warriors.”
