Zamalek Football Club has firmly opposed the implementation of the proposed new league system for the upcoming season, as suggested by Ahmed Diab, the president of the Professional Clubs Association.
The club’s stance has been underscored by a threat directed towards the Egyptian Football Association, reminiscent of Al Ahly’s recent actions regarding matches held at the Ismailia Stadium.
Ahmed Sleiman, a member of Zamalek’s board of directors, articulated the club’s rejection of the new league system, commonly referred to as the Belgian model, stating, “The head of the Clubs Association is an administrative figure and not a technical expert to propose changing the league system to a single-round format.
I do not agree with the new league system.”
Furthermore, Zamalek’s management issued a warning to the Football Association, asserting, “Every season, Zamalek plays against Ismaily at the Ismailia Stadium, while other clubs do not face this situation.
Starting from next season, if Al Ahly does not go there, Zamalek will not go to Ismailia either.”
The club representative criticized the Football Association for allegedly failing to uphold fairness among clubs, adding, “Sporting regulations and laws must be applied to all clubs, and the Football Association does not treat everyone equally.”
Regarding the renewal of star player Shikabala’s contract with Zamalek, the board member expressed satisfaction with the decision, hinting at potential contract renewals for other players in the coming days.
In response to speculation about the team lineup for upcoming matches against El Dakhlia and Al Ahly in the Egyptian Cup final, Ahmed Sleiman clarified, “There is speculation circulating about the lineup, but there is no such thing.
The coach implements playing tactics, and he has not discussed the lineup. I am not bothered by it at all.”
