Moroccan Lions’ pillars endure tough times

Several Moroccan international players plying their trade in European leagues find themselves in precarious situations with their respective clubs as the current football season inches towards its end, a scenario that could potentially impact the futures of many, particularly those on loan deals.

It now appears certain that Galatasaray will not exercise the option to buy Hakim Ziyech’s contract due to his recurring injuries, potentially sending him back to the frigid benches of London with his parent club Chelsea if another offer does not materialize during the summer transfer window.

Similar struggles plague Sofiane Amrabat at Manchester United, with the English club leaning towards not activating the purchase option on his contract from Fiorentina, as his performances with the Red Devils in the Premier League fail to dazzle.

Meanwhile, the future of Naïf Aguerd at West Ham United is under threat, with coach David Moyes reportedly contemplating replacing him with a “sturdier and stronger” defender, particularly after conceding 11 goals in the last three matches in which Aguerd started.

Youssef En-Nesyri, on the other hand, faces scathing criticism at Sevilla, as the Spanish club has gone three games without scoring, especially after squandering clear goal-scoring opportunities in the recent match against Real Madrid.

French media, in turn, have noted a decline in Achraf Hakimi’s form in recent times at Paris Saint-Germain, attributing it to his continued disappointment following Morocco’s elimination from the African Cup of Nations at the hands of Tunisia in the round of 16.
