Fouzi Benzarti, the coach of Wydad Athletic Club, has described the circumstances under which his team played their match against Jwaneng Galaxy in the fifth round of the group stage of the CAF Champions League as harsh.
In an exclusive interview with Koora, Benzarti stated, “First and foremost, praise be to God for the result and what was achieved in this journey, reflecting the players’ strength of character and their reaction.
The conditions were truly unbearable; playing in the afternoon in hot weather, coupled with the dangers associated with such situations, truly amazes me.”
He continued, “Football is supposed to evolve and take on marketing dimensions, yet some matches are still played on the African continent under conditions and atmospheres that can only be described as impossible.”
Benzarti concluded, “We achieved the most important thing, which is victory, and we will pursue our opportunity until the last minute, as long as there is hope.”
Wydad managed to avenge their unexpected defeat in the first leg at the Grand Stadium of Marrakech by defeating their hosts, Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana, with a solitary goal last Saturday, in the fifth round of the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
