Majdi Abdelghani, former star of Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team, has launched a scathing critique against Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim “Kahraba,” the forward of the Al Ahly football team, for his refusal to travel with the team to Ghana to attend his sister’s wedding, which coincided with the team’s departure.
In televised statements on the Egyptian channel “MBC Masr,” Majdi Abdelghani remarked, “What Kahraba did is unacceptable. You are bound by a contract and under the club’s authority.”
He added, “Was it necessary to consult the African Union first to determine the wedding date?! This talk is unacceptable.
My father was in the hospital dying, and at Al Ahly, Captain El-Gohary decided that I should travel for a match against Benin, even though my father was ill and in the hospital.
I didn’t have any celebration. This joy, I put the whole world aside for it and traveled with my team.”
He continued, “I went to my father while he was in the hospital on a ventilator and told him we were planning to travel.
He responded ‘yes.’ I returned to find him dead. This was my duty; I had to travel.”
