The jinx at TP Mazembe’s stadium, the Stade TP Mazembe, also known as Stade de la Kenya in Lubumbashi, continues to haunt Egyptian clubs as none have managed to secure a victory against Mazembe on their home turf.
In the latest encounter, Pyramids FC suffered a defeat against Congolese side TP Mazembe with a 3-0 scoreline in the CAF Champions League.
This defeat adds to the ongoing frustration for Egyptian clubs at Mazembe’s stadium.
No Egyptian club has been able to secure a draw against Mazembe at the Lubumbashi stadium, and none have managed to score a single goal on Mazembe’s home turf.
Egyptian teams have faced Mazembe at the Stade TP Mazembe on nine occasions, with six different clubs participating, yet none have succeeded in achieving victory, a draw, or even scoring a goal.
The series of disappointments began in 2012 when Al Ahly suffered a 2-0 defeat against Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.
In the same year, Zamalek also experienced a 2-0 defeat against Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.
Zamalek faced another defeat in 2014, this time conceding a solitary goal against Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.
Smouha SC became another victim in 2015, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat against Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.
Ismaily suffered a clean 2-0 defeat against Mazembe in Lubumbashi in 2018, also in the CAF Champions League.
In 2019, Zamalek faced their third defeat against Mazembe, this time with a 3-0 scoreline in the CAF Champions League.
In 2022, Al Masry suffered a 2-0 defeat against Mazembe in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Pyramids FC faced Mazembe twice in 2022, first succumbing to a 2-0 defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup, followed by another defeat in 2024 with a scoreline of 3-0 in the CAF Champions League, continuing the historical jinx.
